Every other year impuls opens a call for its international Composition Competition, commissions new works for ensemble from the composers selected and invites them to work intensively with Klangforum Wien at the impuls Composition Workshop.
In this concert, four newly written works by composers from Ukraine, Italy, Japan as well as Poland/USA/Israel will be premiered at the impuls festival. The composers will be present for this special occasion. Moreover, a recent piece by Malin Bång, a former winner of the impuls competition and by now a visiting professor at various international academies and lecturer at the Gothenburg Academy of Music and Theatre, will complement the programme of world premieres.
Short film portraits of the five composers, sponsored and produced by the AVL Cultural Foundation for their series "Front Row Seat", will be shown in the foyer.
Pre-concert talk: Starting at 6:45 p.m., the composers will be introduced by conductor Johannes Kalitzke in the foyer that evening.
In addition to the concert, Klangforum Wien and Johannes Kalitzke will also participate in the impuls Academy and offer reading sessions for the participants of the composition workshops.
